Rehired Retiree Information
Health Care
If you are rehired to work at least half-time, and you are over age 65, Medicare becomes the secondary plan and the University plan becomes primary. Inform your doctors know about the changes so they can bill the insurance company correctly.
It is very important that you discuss with the hiring official how many hours you will work so they can provide the correct information to Human Resources.
Retirement Plan
We are required by law to enroll you in the Emory University Retirement Plan and to offer you the opportunity to make contributions so you can receive the employer matching contribution. If you have already begun drawing retirement contributions, you must complete a new vendor application which will be sent to you by your Benefits Specialist. If you are rehired, your ability to access your 403(b) retirement funds may be affected. Speak with your Benefits Specialist prior to rehire for more information.
Life Insurance
The Basic Life Insurance you have as a retiree will continue.
Disability Insurance
Rehired retirees are not eligible to participate in the Long Term or Short Term Disability Plans.
Regular Half-Time or More Employees
If you are rehired as a regular half-time or more employee you can enroll in:
- Medical and Dependent Flexible Spending Accounts
- Dental Coverage
- Long Term Care (you must provide evidence of insurability)
- Tuition Reimbursement and Courtesy Scholarship Programs
- Supplemental Life Insurance
