Retiring From Emory University
To retire from Emory University, an employee must meet the following conditions:
- Must be at least age 55 years of age; and
- Must have at least 10 years of eligible service of at least 20 hours or more; and
- The sum of the employee’s age and service must equal 75 years or more.
- No breaks of service longer than 12 months or 24 months if due to reduction in force
- The employee must be in a regular paid status
The retirement date can be any day of the month as mutually agreed upon by the employee and his/her department.
Employees are encouraged to contact the Benefits Department at least three months in advance of a pending retirement so a Benefits Specialist can request the employee’s file, gather proper paperwork and be prepared to answer any questions the employee may have.

Flexible Spending Account
If you are enrolled in a Healthcare Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account, after-tax contributions may be continued through COBRA for the remainder of the calendar year in which you retired.
EmoryCard
Your current EmoryCard serves as your ID during retirement. If you do not have an EmoryCard, contact the EmoryCard office at (404) 727-0224 for information on obtaining your card. There is a cost of $5.00.
Courtesy Scholarship
Courtesy Scholarship eligibility continues for undergraduate and graduate courses; spouse/same-sex domestic partner and eligible children are eligible for undergraduate courses. Contact the Courtesy Scholarship Department at (404) 727-2243.
Parking
Yearly parking permit is available at no cost if you are not receiving compensation from Emory. Contact the Parking Department at (404) 727-6106.
Libraries
Continued usage of libraries and library search services. Contact the library at (404) 727-6872.
Discounts
Emory’s employee discount program is now administered by Sparkfly. To participate in this program:
- - Call Sparkfly’s Customer Service at 1-800-687-2359 starting May 30
- - Indicate to the Customer Service Representative that you are a retiree of Emory and provide your name
- - Customer Service will verify your name against the provided list of names and then provide you with a User Name and Password to access the website
- This is in addition to the discounts on cultural and special event admission tickets provided by Emory’s Ticket and Information Center. For current prices and ticket availability call: 404-727-8425. For campus information call: 404-727-4636.

Continued membership in Blomeyer Health Fitness Center (Phone: (404) 727-4600) and/or Woodruff Physical Education Center (Phone: (404) 727-6547).

Retired FACULTY Benefits
- Participation in Emory convocations and commencements
- Inclusion of emeritus faculty in future editions of the campus phone directory
- Access to the facilities and catering services of the Houston Mill House; retired faculty may participate in monthly faculty dinners and daily lunches. Contact the Houston Mill House at (404) 727-7878.
- Lifetime forwarding of your @emory.edu email address to an external email account (such as Hotmail, Gmail Yahoo Mail, or another provider of your choosing);*This benefit ceases when the Retiree is deceased.

- Web-based access to your existing Exchange, Eagle, or LearnLink email account for as long as that particular e-mail system is supported by the Office of Information Technology. These email accounts are for use only by the retiree. Contact the IT Help Desk at (404) 727-7777* This benefit ceases when the Retiree is deceased.
